Iris Ensemble is a Baroque ensemble based in Brussels – a female sextet with musicians from five different countries. Our name ‘Iris’ refers to the symbol of the city of Brussels, the flower Iris, where we began our musical journey together. As a female and multicultural ensemble, we show our voice and strength via music, the universal language par excellence that transcends all boundaries, cultures and languages.  Music unites! That’s the message we want to pass on to our audience.
We perform according to an historically informed practice on period instruments. Being a string quintet with harpsichord allows us to play orchestral music with the delicacy of chamber music.

Musicians:
Katja Katanova, violin
Sophie Paeshuyse, violin
Els De Jonghe, viola
Sanna Gillerfors, cello
Liesa Deville, double bass
Vasco Pereira, harpsichord

Marta Jakubiec is a Polish choir conductor having wide experience in conducting both professional and amateur choirs (among others: BBC Singers, Vancouver Chamber Choir, Young Choir Vox Laci in Portugal, the Estonian Choir Beene and BachWerk in Brussels). Marta also studied harpsichord at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and uses her knowledge organizing Baroque concerts by Vocal Ease and instrumental groups. She is also a passionate music teacher for people of all ages and the founder of the music centre Do-Re-Mi, (www.doremibelgium.com). Marta also works as a vocal coach in projects organized by Operamus (www.operamus.eu), aimed at the performance of Italian operas at BOZAR by children from primary schools in Belgium, together with professional orchestras and singers.

The choir would be delighted if you would join us for drinks and nibbles after the concert.
